My room on the 17th Floor with higher ceiling
Now, here's a little insider tip: I had the pleasure of staying on the 17th floor, and let me tell you, it's something special. The ceiling on the top floor is higher than the others, which adds an extra touch of spaciousness and elegance to the room. Even though the room layout and type are the same, that higher ceiling makes all the difference. It's like an extra dose of luxury on the 17th floor.
Guests staying in suites can also enjoy access to the exclusive Oriental Club, providing additional amenities and personalized service. Whether you choose a guest room or a suite, you will experience unparalleled comfort and luxury.
The Beauty of the Interiors
What was exceptionally impressive during my stay was the elegant and timeless design of Mandarin Oriental Taipei. It truly is a beacon of luxury and sophistication, I would say. As one approaches the edifice, the grandeur of its European-inspired facade, a masterpiece crafted by the renowned architectural firm WATG (Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo), commands attention, setting it apart from the surrounding structures. So gorgeous, just looking at all the details of inside and outside of this architecture amused my immensively.
Entering the lobby is akin to stepping into a realm of sublime elegance. Suspended from the lofty ceiling hangs a majestic chandelier, a spectacle weighing a staggering 1,400 kilograms. Composed of an intricate interplay of 50,000 crystal pieces and light amber crystal drops, this luminary masterpiece is the brainchild of the talented Czech designer, Tafana Dvorakova. Nine months of meticulous craftsmanship culminated in this awe-inspiring creation, exclusively tailored for the hotel.
London-based Studio Four IV took charge of designing the public spaces, infusing them with an exquisite blend of opulence and modernity. Their meticulous attention to detail is evident in every corner, from the sumptuous fabrics to the intricate furnishings. The result is a fusion of châteauesque grandeur with contemporary finesse, a testament to the timeless allure of their design philosophy.
Art aficionados will find themselves enraptured by the hotel's extensive collection, boasting over 1,700 pieces curated to perfection. Among them, the works of acclaimed artists such as Jae-Hyo Lee, Chan-Il Kim, and Wei Zhu grace the corridors and lounges, enriching the space with their unparalleled creativity and vision.
Stepping into a guest room is akin to immersing oneself in a symphony of classical inspirations and contemporary nuances. Here, every element has been carefully curated to evoke a sense of refined elegance. Custom-designed wallpaper by UK designer brand Elli Popp adorns the walls, while hand-sculpted leather panels by English artist Helen Amy Murray depict the delicate beauty of peony flowers, a symbol of prosperity and good fortune. I could stay all day in my room and enjoy the details that I see – it was so heavenly to whom seeks for the beauty of design!! The indulgence continues with 480-thread-count satin bed linen, state-of-the-art technology, and lavish marble bathrooms featuring oversized bathtubs and walk-in rainforest showers. Each detail, meticulously crafted to cater to the discerning tastes of the hotel's esteemed guests.
Oh, and I could never miss Tony Chi, the very famous hotel designer – also of Rosewood Hong Kong, my absolute favorite among all Asian cities. He designed the contemporary Café Un Deux Trois and Ya Ge, the one-Michelin-Starred Chinese restaurant which provides a beautiful setting to enjoy excellent cuisine with personalised service and a range of private rooms for entertaining.
In every aspect, Mandarin Oriental Taipei exemplifies the pinnacle of luxury hospitality, where design transcends mere aesthetics to create an immersive experience that captivates the senses and leaves an indelible impression on all who enter its hallowed halls.
